Bengaluru: Former Karnataka Prime Minister and JD (S) Leader HD Kumaraswamy called on Prime Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday to bring a delegation to the Prime Minister’s office and call for the Mekedatu project to be implemented quickly.

Kumaraswamy met Bommai in his office on Tuesday with his party’s lawmakers and presented a memorandum on the matter. He also promised to help the government implement the project quickly.

“It happens that the central government did not give full approval to the project. His two-pronged approach is clear from the start. Bommai should not hesitate to send a delegation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the interests of the state, ”said Kumaraswamy, adding that the JD (S) was ready to be part of the delegation.

The former chief minister said they had also urged Bommai to put pressure on the center so that Karnataka could use its water share in the Mahadayi project.

The ambitious Mekedatu project to supply Bengaluru with drinking water is rejected by neighboring Tamil Nadu. Karnataka claims it has every right to use its share of water, while Tamil Nadu wants to block the project.
