Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) spokesman and co-chief for Punjab affairs, Raghav Chadha, condemned the alleged “brutal killing” of farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri on Monday and called for strict measures to be taken against those responsible for the incident.

At a press conference, Chadha and opposition leader Harpal Singh Cheema said an AAP delegation would go to Lakhimpur Kheri to protest this “unfortunate incident”. The delegation would include Chadha, Cheema, MLA Baljinder Kaur and the President of the Punjab Kisan Wing, Kultar Singh Sandhwan.

Chadha said the AAP delegation will make three main demands, including the dismissal of Union Secretary of State Ajay Mishra, the arrest of his son Ashish and a fair investigation to punish those responsible. Cheema accused the BJP government of creating an emergency-like situation in the state.

Dismissed Mishra, arrested his son: man

The President of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and MP Bhagwant Mann strongly condemned the killing of farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri and on Monday called for the immediate dismissal of the Union’s interior minister, Ajay Mishra, from the cabinet and the arrest of his son Ashish.

In a statement published here, Mann said that around 700 farmers lost their lives during the ongoing peasant movement. He claimed that the Lakhimpur incident showed that there was no democracy in Uttar Pradesh or the country, but the rule of batons and bullets. “The relatives of the injured, leaders of opposition parties and others are not allowed to be there,” he said. In a video, Mann appealed to the population to bring this matter to the UN.
