Jharkhand Prime Minister Hemant Soren will lead a delegation expected to meet with Union Interior Minister Amit Shah on Sunday to present a memorandum calling for a caste count, sources said.

Sources said the meeting would take place days after Hemant Soren wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Jan.

Hemant Soren had also sought Prime Minister Modi’s time to discuss issues related to the caste census and identification of Sarna tribesmen in the census.

Earlier, an 11-person delegation led by Bihar Prime Minister Nitish Kumar met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 23 August to request a caste-based census. They said the Prime Minister heard their demands and added that the delegation asked him to take a decision on the matter.

“PM Modi heard our call for a caste count and we hope he will consider it. He has not yet denied our claim. We asked him to make a decision, ”Nitish Kumar said after the meeting.
