BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Help ensure that signs around Tuscaloosa show the urgent need for vacancies.
“We have so many vacancies, part-time, full-time, that we have to fill that we have to fill even when there is no football season,” said Kelsey Rush, vice president of marketing and communications for Tuscaloosa Tourism and Sports Commission.
On Monday, Rush explained why the application deadline for a virtual hiring event has been extended.
“If these jobs are not filled, someone in a restaurant may have to wait a little longer. Someone may not have cleaned a room in a hotel, ”she said.
They want to hire enough people to fill 125 vacancies in the Tuscaloosa hospitality industry. The recruitment event is virtual so that job seekers can contact a potential hotel or restaurant online if they wish.
The football season is a big money maker for various businesses in the area.
“But you add the football season to the mix and you add hundreds of thousands of people who have traveled to Tuscaloosa in the past few weekends, and that’s more important. Not only do we want our local community to have these opportunities and jobs, but we also want the visitor experience when they travel here to be exceptional, ”said Rush.
The application deadline has been extended to September 23. You can sign up for the West Alabama Works Career Connect System and apply for these positions here.
