It’s about practicing sustainable ways and celebrating the season at the same time.
Material Reclamation Manager Jessica Gervasi from Broome County’s Division of Solid Waste Management caught up on 12 news items and explained how you can do your part this holiday season.
Gervasi said you should be careful about what you recycle. “If you are not sure whether an item is recyclable and you do not see it on our website, if in doubt, throw it away,” she said.
The Materials Recovery Manager also said shopping at local stores if possible. “These things don’t have to travel that far and there is less packaging,” said Gervasi. “If you need to shop online, this choice is yours to ship in a box.”
After opening a gift, consider when you need to recycle the wrapping paper or when this is not the right method.
